Unit 6: Quadrilaterals (Chapter 6 in the text)
For this unit, you will need to demonstrate mastery of a topic prior to proceeding to the next topic.
For each lesson there are objectives. Students must complete the following steps prior to proceeding to the next lesson:
1) Watch the teacher video, take notes, summarize, and write at least one question. (10 pts)
2) Complete the assignments noted on the learning guide
Khan Academy assignments are scored online and students must, at a minimum, pass the first two levels successfully.
Book assignments will be corrected by the student using an answer key. If a student misses a problem, they must correct their work, making sure to note where their mistakes were.
3) Complete any TI-Nspire Investigations noted on the Learning Guide for the Lesson. (10 pts each)
4) When the student feels confident that they have learned the content and mastered the lesson objectives, they will take a lesson quiz. They must score 80% or higher to progress to the next lesson. If they score lower, they may retake the quiz up to a maximum of 3 times. Prior to the retake, they must determine WHY they missed the questions they missed on the quiz and explain what they should have done differently. They may wish to rework a few Khan Academy or book assignment problems to assist them in solving the quiz problems successfully. (10 pts)
When students have completed all six units, they must work the review exercises for the chapter. When that is complete, the student will complete a short interview with the instructor for a final determination as to whether the student is ready to take the chapter test. The chapter test may only be taken one time. Its score is final (100 pts).
Points to note:
- The learning guide dates are necessary for pacing guidelines. If a student falls more than two days behind the pacing, they will be required to attend lunch tutoring until they are caught up.
- The test date on the learning guide is the last possible date to take the chapter test.
- Before a student progresses to a different step in a lesson, the teacher must sign off the prior step...that means, no working problems, until AFTER the video is watched.
- If students are caught using the computers for anything non-math related, they will receive a immediate disciplinary referral. NO WARNINGS!!! This means: no streaming music, no non-math websites. etc.
- Students are expected to use class time for maximum benefit. Failure to stay on task will result in disciplinary measures being taken.
- Students may finish a lesson early and, therefore, may watch videos during class. Bring headphones/earbuds to listen to the videos quietly.
- Students are expected to work on lessons at home to the degree necessary to maintain pacing according to the unit learning guide.
